Neurotoxin Injection

How does it work?

Botox, short for botulinum toxin, works by temporarily blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it's injected. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly in areas like the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes.

Treatment indications:

  • Anti-aging:

    • Frown lines (Glabellar lines): The vertical lines between the eyebrows that appear when frowning.

    • Forehead lines: Horizontal lines that form across the forehead due to muscle movement.

    • Crow's feet: Wrinkles around the eyes caused by smiling or squinting.

  • Aesthetics:

    • Gummy Smile Correction: Botox can be used to reduce the appearance of a "gummy smile" by relaxing the upper lip muscles.

    • Facial Contouring: In some cases, Botox can be used to reshape facial features by altering muscle activity, such as reducing the appearance of a square jaw or correcting asymmetry.

  • Medical Uses:

    • Chronic Migraines: Botox injections are approved to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraines.

    • Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating): Botox can be used to reduce excessive sweating in areas like the underarms, palms, or feet.

    • Muscle Spasms: It is used to treat muscle stiffness and spasms, such as cervical dystonia (neck muscle spasms) and spasticity in limbs.

    • Jaw Tension (Bruxism): Some individuals with teeth grinding or jaw tension may find relief with Botox injections to relax the muscles.

Procedure:

  1. Consultation: Before the procedure, the practitioner will conduct a thorough consultation to understand the patient's goals and determine if Botox is suitable for their needs. They will assess the areas to be treated and discuss the potential risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.

  2. Preparation: The skin in the treatment area is cleaned to reduce the risk of infection.

  3. Injection: Using a fine needle, the practitioner carefully injects small amounts of Botox into targeted muscles. The number of injections and the amount of Botox used depend on various factors, including the treated area and the desired outcome.

  4. Post-care: After the injections, patients are usually advised to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area to prevent the Botox from spreading to unintended muscles and refrain from strenuous exercise for approximately 24 hours post-treatment.

  5. Follow-up: Patients may be scheduled for a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks to assess the results and determine if any touch-ups are needed.

(Procedure takes about 10-20 minutes)

Recommended sessions:

The effects are temporary, therefore recommend repeat sessions every three to four months.
